The six nations kicked off this weekend. lots of flags and lots of rivalry! saturday night ended in silence in my house as England won.... my wife is Welsh!

With all the flags, i cast my mind back to Dear old Eddie Izzard and the amazing achievement he made for Sport Relief. I'm finding it hard enough to keep my marathon training going, let alone doing a marathon every day!

But it still inspires me. Makes me want to set a new goal.... the four nations marathons! The plan is to do a marathon in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. might take a few years, but its a plan!!

so, has this week been an inspiring story or an Italian Rugby team?

Good plan, Batty. I've already done the England leg, I've been intending to do the Lake Vyrnwy, so that would be the Welsh leg...hmmm, not many Scottish or Irish ones too adjacent to Shropshire!

great plan batz - but lets get england under our belts first!
tapering week for me with a lightweight 4k on the tready midweek before hammering the chilterns on sunday for the Watford Half. Did 1'54" which was a bit better than expected given the very hilly route. 2m off the pb from uxbridge canal path so now thinking could do better than that on the flat...

A good week for me

2/2/2010 Run 4.65 Miles
3/2/2010 Run 3.8 Miles
4/2/2010 Run 5.1 Miles
7/2/2010 Run 15.7 Miles :)

Did the Sunday run accompanied for 13 miles by one of the new guys from Sweatshop Runners. Good to be out with another runner and a change from not wearing the ipod. On the down side my top kept riding up under my pack and I have small but very sore patch on my lower back where its rubbed. Note to self, tuck top into tights next time and pack the bag better.

A good week for me too. Started off with very heavy legs thanks to Riot Runner on the Sunday but stuck with it and hit my goals for marathon training week 6.

Mon - rest
Tue - 9x400m fast with 9x200m recovery jogs, +1mile warmup, 1mile cool down (times all over the place but averaged out to the right pace)
Wed - 7 miles slow
Thu - 4 miles tempo (+1mile warmup, 1mile cool down)
Fri - rest
Sat - 4 miles easy. Took ipod for first time in months, ended up flying down last 400m or so when I put an up-tempo tune on. Enjoyed that :-)
Sun - 15 miles slow. Minor mental miscalculation as it should have been 14 but not to worry...

37.4 miles in total - pleased with that.

Congratulations to all Watford half marathoners! I had forgotten it was on this weekend. JG, your training must be really paying off to get such a good PB improvement on a hilly course.

Had a pretty good week this week:

Thursday- Nothing due to the world's worst migraine- thought I was feeling better, so I got up to get my running clothes on and the room started spinning. So I sat back down.

14 weeks until the marathon now! scary stuff!

Had intended to cut the mileage down this week, as I'd been feeling a bit run down for a while. However, this didn't really happen to any significant degree, and I ended up with another 80+ mile week.

Mon. pm. --- 7.8 miles --- 57:58

Tue. am. --- 7.2 miles --- 57:33
Tue. pm. --- 5.8 miles --- 37:17

Wed. am. --- 7.0 miles --- 56:38
Wed. pm. --- 5.8 miles --- 36:31

Thu. am. --- 7.3 miles --- 1:00:24
Thu. pm. --- 7.4 miles --- 58:45

Fri. am. --- 6.5 miles --- 51:44
Fri. pm. --- 6.4 miles --- 50:06

Sat. am. --- 6.1 miles --- 53:20

Sun. am. --- 16.9 miles --- 2:16:11 (Most of this run was off-road and included around
1800 feet of climbing).

Tues 45 mins cardio with Personal trainer on wii fit (jumping around lounge barefoot) = no foot pain
Saturday - 5k run attempt, ended up run/walking = foot very painful
Saturday afternoon- 2 mile family walk along the beach playing tag with kids, wearing walking boots = no foot pain
Sunday 3 mile brisk walk on moors wearing walking boots = no foot pain
Another frustrating week!

Gait analysis booked for Saturday though!

Quite fancy the Cardiff half marathon later in the year. That will hopefully be a English and Welsh half, could continue the national tour or upgrade to marathon distance, might have to take to hopping rather than running though!

I've had a week like the North Korean rugby's third team - bloody awful.

Not run for 8 days due to heavy cold / cough virus. I've been feeling terrrible. And then this morning my back and pelvis has locked up. The last time this happened it took three weeks to get it moving right again.
Woe is me!!!

Tell me what it feels like to run, please.

Painful! but thats a story for next week!!

Last week went like this:

Monday - nowt as still getting over sickness & hadn't eaten anything for preceeding 24 hours
Tuesday - Gym weights on upper body
Wednesday - 8.7 miles, felt good
Thursday - nowt
Friday - nowt but had aircon recharged, which helps me cool down after a run!!
Saturday - swimming with the kids (ok more like floating, but didn't want to put nowt again!)
Sunday - 16 miles in 2h 50m. furthest i've ever run by 2 miles.

On my long run i found miles 10-12 the hardest mentally. averaged about 10'40'' per mile, slowest being 11'20''.

seem to be averaging 24 miles per week. when i get onto my 20 mile runs in a few weeks, the most i'll be up to is 35 per week.

is that enough to et me round the marathon in under 5 hours, as i think the dream of 4:30 is slipping away!!
