If you’re still in search of a comfortable sports bra then help is at hand. The team at Shock Absorber have spent the last 18 months researching what makes a great sports bra. Here’s what they found.

It’s official, more and more women are getting into running, in fact nearly 10% more women are pounding the pavements than 4 years ago.

But as running has grown in popularity manufacturers to our sport have also striven to provide us with products that both look good and do the best job possible; a difficult goal.

Shock Absorber, the UK’s leading sports bra brand are a case in point.  The team have spent a staggering 18 months studying the bio-mechanics of the breast and the role of the humble bra. The result? A ground-breaking range of sports bras designed for specific sports.

Run, Ball and Racket

Shock Absorber recognise that running, reaching to score a basket or swinging for a big serve, place different stresses on the breasts, requiring different kinds of support. The first of its kind, their new range guarantees “targeted” support for three popular sport categories: run, ball and racket.

Shock Absorber commissioned the research from the University of Portsmouth and teamed up with Dr Joanna Scurr, breast health expert to fully understand the impact that running, ball sports and racket sports have on the breasts and body.

The research found that women experience different types of breast movement and associated discomfort within each type of sport. The research findings were used to design each specialist sports bra, and each prototype was put through its paces in treadmill, jumping, lunging and anti-chafe tests. With their targeted support and advanced technical features, the exciting new range answers the needs of not just runners but sporting women in general, providing complete support and comfort.

Shock Absorber’s Julia Nolan said: “Shock Absorber prides itself at being at the forefront of innovation, and we continually look to invest in research and design to ensure our bras offer the best support available for sporting women. Now as women reach for their running trainers, racket or ball, they can also choose the ideal sports bra, safe in the knowledge that it will offer ultimate comfort and support, so the wearer can concentrate on her sporting performance.”

Run

During running, breasts move in a continuous figure of 8 pattern, which can lead to rubbing or chafing as a result of the repetitive motion. Shock Absorber has developed the most effective sports bra available for runners.  The Run bra combines seamless comfort features with targeted breast support, achieving an overall bounce reduction of up to 78% when scientifically tested.
